The present invention includes a shift catalyst catalyzing a reaction of CO in a syngas with H2 0 to convert the CO and H2 0 into H2 and C0 2 , the syngas being produced by 5 gasification of a carbon-containing solid fuel and comprising at least CO and H2 S. The shift catalyst includes a sulfide-containing active ingredient; a sulfide-adsorptive ingredient adsorbing a sulfide in the syngas to suppress decomposition of the active ingredient; and a support that 10 supports the active ingredient and the sulfide-adsorptive ingredient.
