863,560. Motor vehicle hydraulic drives. BROWN INDUSTRIES Ltd., D. Jan. 6, 1960 [Oct. 8, 1958], No. 32053/58. Class 79(2). The wheels or endless tracks of a vehicle are driven by hydraulic motors in series, one or more of which may be by-passed and thus hydraulically locked to provide braking or wheel or track steering. As shown, the endless tracks 17 and 20 of a vehicle, which pass round idler wheels 23 and 24, are driven by wheels 19 and 22 driven through reduction gears 18 and 21 respectively by hydraulic motors 13 and 15 supplied with fluid from a reversible pump 10 driven by an engine 11. A priming pump 31 is also driven by the engine and supplies liquid to the circuit from a sump 32 through non-return walves 34, and 35, a pressure relief valve 36 being provided. The motors 13 and 15 are connected by a conduit 16 and may be by-passed through pipes 25 and 27 controlled by two way valves 26 and 28. Overload relief valves 29 and 30 are provided in the supply and return pipes 12 and 14. The vehicle may be controlled by operation of pump 10 or by turning the bypass valves 26 and 28 equal or different amounts to provide braking or steering.
