The mirror replacement system has an image recording unit, particularly a digital image sensor, a supply unit, and a reproducing unit (23) that is adapted to be arranged visibly in the vehicle interior by a driver. The supply unit or the image recording unit is adapted to conduct the video processing of the images for reducing the data volume transmitted to the reproducing unit. The image recording unit and the supply unit are separated from each other, and are arranged in a common metallic or plastic housing, particularly a water vapor-tight housing.
