<p>A motor vehicle ladder understructure comprises multiple cross members 37, preferably each being hollow and having identical cross-section, fastened to two side members 36 using adapters 38. Adapters 38 each comprise two identical shells connected to each other, preferably using flanges at an obtuse angle to the adapter side walls, and connected at face ends to a cross member 37 and a side member 36. Cross member 37 may be connected to adapter 38 by a plug connection. Typically, adapters 38 are formed by deep drawing and have a hat-shaped or L-shaped cross-section.
