The present invention discloses a method of encoding and decoding videos using differential residual signals based on information of layered data units. The video encoding method begins with dividing pictures into maximum encoding units, followed by the generation of residual signals of predictive units included in encoding units based on encoding and predictive units which is obtained by dividing the maximum encoding units into layers. The method then generates control data for generating the differential residual signals included in the encoding units based on at least one of the layer information out of the encoding, predictive and conversion units. Based on the control information, the differential residual signals included in the encoding units is generated.
