<p>A novel actuator (10) contains a housing (12) having a first end (14), a second end (16), and an inner wall. A piston rod assembly (20) is contained within the housing (12), wherein the assembly (20) contains a piston rod (2)6, a first end cap (22) fixed at one end of the piston rod (26), and a second end cap (24) fixed at an opposing end of the piston rod (26). An energy management device (34) is constrained about an outer diameter of the first end cap (22), wherein upon actuation of the actuator (10), the energy management device (34) may under predetermined conditions be deformed upon movement of said piston rod (26).</p> |
