Provided are a device and method for producing a glass plate that are able to reliably break off the margins of the glass plate and that can increase the speed of the breaking process. Compressed air is jetted from air nozzles (32) towards the margins (G2) of a glass plate (G1) in which a vertical planned cutting line (L1) has been processed ahead of time for separating the margins (G2) and a main body section (G3) at the boundary of the margins (G2) and the main body section (G3). Bending stress acts between the main body section (G3) and the margins (G2) by means of the jetted compressed air, and thus the margins (G2) are contactlessly separated from the main body section (G3) by breaking along the vertical planned cutting line (L1).
