The present invention pertains to the recognition that a specific structural alteration of MIF is involved in MIF-related disorders, providing a new approach to the treatment and prevention of MIF-related disorders, as well as other specific medical applications, e.g. for example monitoring of disease progression, drug screening and diagnostic assays and respective uses of diagnostic kits.
