Probe assembly for attaching a chromatography device to a mass spectrometer

A probe assembly comprises an inlet for receiving an eluent from chromatography system and an outlet 120 for delivering the eluent to a mass or ion mobility spectrometer. An insulating fluid line 118 is joined to a conductive capillary 124. The joint is downstream of an attachment device/member 122 for attaching the assembly to the spectrometer. The conductive capillary 124 is in electrical contact with a conductive member 126 which may surround the conductive capillary 124. Upon attaching the attachment member 122 to the spectrometer, an electrical connection is made to the probe assembly. For example, the attachment device 122 may comprises a ferrule 127 that connects an electrical contact on the body of the mass spectrometer to the conductive member 126. The probe assembly may be an electrospray capillary which may be removably inserted into an ion source orifice of the mass spectrometer.
