<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an organic EL element superior in light emission efficiency, which enables the suppression of the rise in drive voltage even in the case of using zinc oxide for a transparent electrode and enables the increase a light extraction efficiency; and an image display device including such organic EL elements; and a luminaire.SOLUTION: The organic EL element comprises at least a first electrode 12, an organic layer 13 including a light-emitting layer, and a second electrode 14 which are located over a substrate 11 in this order. In the organic EL element, the side of the substrate 11 is made a light-drawing side. The organic EL element further comprises a low-refraction index layer 15 and a metal layer 16 which are provided on a surface of the second electrode 14 on the side opposite to the organic layer 13 from the opposite side surface in this order, provided that the low-refraction index layer 15 is a first dielectric layer. The first electrode 12 and the second electrode 14 each exhibit a transmittance of 50% or more to a wavelength of light emission by the light-emitting layer. The second electrode 14 is made of zinc oxide doped with a metal element.</p> |
