PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation method of a liquid crystal display device in which fluctuations in display performance due to temperature and humidity changes are reduced.SOLUTION: There is provided an optical compensation method of a liquid crystal display device comprising: an alignment-controlled liquid crystal layer arranged between a pair of substrates at least one of which has an electrode and which are arranged facing one another; a liquid crystal cell in which an electric field with a component parallel to the substrate is formed by the electrode; and a pair of polarizers with the liquid crystal cell interposed therebetween. A product &Dgr;n d of a thickness d(μm) of the liquid crystal layer and a refractive index anisotropy &Dgr;n is 0.2 to 1.2 μm. Thermoplastic resin film satisfying a predetermined formula and containing lactone ring-containing polymer is used as a protective film for the polarizers. |
