There is provided a method of operating a User Equipment, UE, in a wireless communication network. The UE is configured for Discontinuous Reception, DRX, operation with a DRX cycle having a DRX ON period in which the UE is in a DRX awake state and ready for reception and a DRX OFF period in which the UE is in a DRX sleep state. The UE is determining (S1) whether an uplink packet to be transmitted is delay tolerant. Further, the UE is delaying (S2), when the uplink packet is regarded as delay tolerant, a request for an uplink transmission grant for the uplink packet until a DRX ON period of the UE. By delaying the request for an uplink transmission grant for a delay tolerant uplink packet until a DRX ON period of the UE, the UE does not have to wake up to listen to the response from the network during the DRX OFF period. The UE can thus stay in DRX sleep mode for a longer period of time. This reduces power consumption and leads to significant battery savings in the UE. |
