A vehicle control apparatus is provided with an idling stop control device which operates under the condition that the vehicle speed be a prescribed vehicle speed or less and stops or restarts an engine when a prescribed parameter relating to steering satisfies a prescribed requirement, and a lane-keeping-assistance control device which operates under the condition that the vehicle speed be the prescribed vehicle speed or less and generates steering force through an actuator in accordance with a result of detecting lane-dividing markings or the like; the prescribed requirement being set so that when the lane-keeping-assistance control device is in a prescribed operating state, it is easier to stop or more difficult to restart the engine than in other cases.
