<p>A reclining chair with a tilt position mechanism includes a base frame positioned on a floor surface and a tilt mechanism connected to the base frame. The tilt mechanism includes a tilt motor 30 connected between a rear member of the base frame and a torque tube 120 which is displaced by operation of the tilt motor. First and second rotation links 84, 84 are rotatably connected between the base frame and the torque tube. A pivot tube 22 is connected by first and second journal links 72, 74 to a rearward portion of the base frame. The journal links 72, 74 are shorter than the rotation links 84, 84 such that forward and upward displacement of the torque tube displaces the pivot tube and rotates the journal links. Because the journal links are shorter than the rotation links the torque tube is elevated above the pivot tube and the rear of the chair rises less than the front of the chair to create a tilt position. The motor is preferably connected to the torque tube via a shaft 52 and a bracket 66. A leg rest extension and seat back recline mechanism may also be included.</p> |
