A Universal Serial Bus, USB, connection between host and peripheral devices 22, 23 comprises high-speed data channels each having a pair of high-speed signal links 26. Both signal links are configured to transmit data bidirectionally. Initially, each bidirectionally configured signal link transmits data in a first direction according to the required data transmission capacity between the host and peripheral devices. Signal links that should change directions are selected and configured to transmit data to a second direction by sending a redirection signal. Each signal link includes ports 212, 213 at either end of the connection and a controller 28, 29 for each port. Which controller to use is initially negotiated by the host and peripheral devices. Changing to a particular direction is based on priority of the data or to a request signal specifying for that direction the data transmission capacity or the minimum number of preferred signal links. |
