This application relates to a subsea routing module 30 of a passive optical network (PON) for an underwater hydrocarbon extraction facility. The network preferably provides wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communication between a surface located control station 28 and a plurality of subsea control modules, 23-26. The routing module includes a demultiplexer. The input of the demultiplexer is connected to the control station via a fibre optic umbilical cable 29. The outputs of the demultiplexer are connected to the plurality of subsea control modules via respective output optical fibres 31. Each output optical fibre may terminate at a circulator (41, Fig. 6) connected to transmit 43 and receive 42 optical media convertors associated with a respective control module. The media converters may be small form-factor pluggable (SFP) devices. |
