The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for detecting 3D point cloud POI. An apparatus for detecting 3D point cloud point of interest (POI) allows to use a shape description vector describing a shape of a surface in which a pixel point of a 3D point cloud and a neighboring point adjacent to the pixel point are included so as to extract a POI which is a key point in a 3D point cloud.
