<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an operator to surely recognize a tape residual amount even in production of a print label by use of a plurality of different types of tape rolls. <P>SOLUTION: In the label producing apparatus 100, a control circuit 40 calculates a tape thickness t of the tape roll 17 based on a predetermined calculating formula by use of pulse periods E, E' of each detecting element 75 before and after conveyance of a label producing tape 16 by a conveyance amount L, a known arrangement pitch angleθof the detecting element 75 and a conveyance speed S. A tape residual amount M of the tape roll 17 is calculated based on a predetermined calculating formula using the tape thickness t, a spool outside diameter d, the conveyance speed S, an angular velocityωof the tape roll 17 based on a detection result of a first optical sensor 51.
