PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder capable of achieving high resolution, and a servo motor.SOLUTION: An optical module 120 comprises: a light source 121 configured to emit diffusion light to a plurality of slit tracks; a light-receiving array PI1 placed in a first direction centering on the light source 121 and configured to receive the light reflected by a slit track SI1 including an incremental pattern; and light-receiving arrays PI2L and PI2R placed in a second direction in which an angle &thetas; is formed with respect to the first direction centering on the light source 121 and configured to receive the light reflected by a slit track SI2 including an incremental pattern having a pitch different from the incremental pattern of the slit track SI1 corresponding to the light-receiving array PI1.
