The present invention relates to a mobile terminal which can provide contents received from the outside of the mobile terminal to a user, and to a control method thereof. The mobile terminal is configured to comprise: a wireless communications part communicating with an external server corresponding to a region in which the mobile terminal is located; a detection part detecting at least one among the state or external environment of the mobile terminal; and a control part transmitting the result of detection to the external server, and receiving selection information for being selected to receive contents from the external server by corresponding to the transmission of the detection result, wherein the control part receives the contents corresponding to the detection result from the external server, if the the contents is decided to be provided based on the selection information.
