The present invention relates to a manufacturing method of a cathode active material, comprising the steps of: (a) synthesizing a lithium transition metal oxide with the remaining Li byproducts on the surface of a particle; (b) reacting the lithium transition metal oxide through a liquid phase reaction with a reaction precursor forming a stable phase after reacting the Li byproducts; and (c) filtering, heat treating, and then crushing the reactant. The lithium transition metal oxide manufactured by using the same exhibits excellent performance as a cathode active material, can solve the problem such as gelation of slurry caused by a significantly small amount of reaction byproducts such as Li_2CO_3, LiOH, or the like, high temperature degradation performance of a battery, etc.
