WRITING IN AND READING OUT DATA HAVING MULTIPLE ACCESS PATTERNS ON TAPE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time taken for seeking when reading out data and thereby to increase the velocity of reading out and transferring data.SOLUTION: Recording is done by aligning the positions of data recorded in the shifting direction of the storage medium (if the medium is a tape, its lengthwise direction) or in the widthwise direction of the medium. As a wrap having a group of multiple files, shifting (in the lengthwise direction) from a first position to a second position on the storage medium is done. Next, the head is shifted in the widthwise direction from one wrap to another. As another wrap having a group of multiple files, shifting (in the lengthwise direction) from a third position to a fourth position on the storage medium is done. The two wraps are distinguishable from each other.
