<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch a combustion mode to lean combustion from stoichiometric combustion without generating a torque variation at an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: When a condition for switching a combustion mode to lean combustion from stoichiometric combustion is satisfied, an internal combustion engine is controlled so as to increase the amount of air which is sucked into a cylinder, a prediction value of torque which is obtained by the internal combustion engine by increasing the number of cylinders which perform lean combustion by a prescribed number is calculated, the number of the cylinders which perform the lean combustion after the calculated prediction value reaches target torque is actually increased by a prescribed number, and thereby the number of the cylinders which perform the lean combustion is increased up to all the cylinders in order by a prescribed number.</p> |
