Disclosed are a Polygonun capitatum extract and a use thereof and a preparation containing the Polygonun capitatum extract. The method for preparing this Polygonun capitatum extract comprises the steps of: (1) taking dried Polygonun capitatum, adding 55% - 65% ethanol, soaking, reflux extracting, filtering, and concentrating to give an alcohol extracted concentrated liquid; (2) adding water to the drug residue, boiling, filtering, and concentrating to obtain a water extracted concentrated liquid; (3) combining the alcohol extracted concentrate liquid and water extracted concentrate liquid, and then concentrating to give the Polygonun capitatum extract. The Polygonun capitatum extract can be made into tablets, capsules, granules and oral liquid. The Polygonun capitatum extract contains large amounts of total flavonoids and total tannin.
