Heparamine is produced by subjecting heparin in the form of a quaternary ammonium salt with a long chain alkyl or aralkyl amine having from 9-27 carbon atoms to alcoholysis, and thereafter separating heparamine from the reaction mixture in the form of a salt. In a preferred embodiment sodium heparinate is transformed into a salt of benzyl-dimethyl-2-(2-2-[para-(1, 1, 3, 3, -tetramethylbutyl)- phenoxy]-ethoxy)- ethyl ammonium chloride (Hyamine 1622) and the salt then dissolved in anhydrous tert.-butanol and refluxed with para-toluene sulphonic acid in benzene and tert. butanol. After cooling, the product is extracted with aqueous sodium acetate and precipitated with methanol to give the sodium salt of heparamine. The hyamine 1622 may be replaced by hyamine 2389, cequartyl BE, zephirol, or an alkyl-dilauryl-dimethylammonium chloride. Specifications 41179/58, 863,235 and 867,064 are referred to. |
