941,266. Auxiliary air admission. C. GALIC. April 7, 1961 [April 9, 1960; Sept. 1, 1960; Feb. 2, 1961], No. 12619/61. Heading F1B. In a mixture suction conduit 33, Fig. 1, there is provided a mixing chamber 38a, Fig. 3, which admits additional air for the afteratomization of the condensed fuel passing along the inner wall of the suction conduit and has condensate and collecting ribs 57 which extend into the region of inlet opening. With the engine idling and the carburetter throttle valve closed, additional air is admitted through a nozzle 47 mounted in the casing 42 downstream of throttle valve 24. Opening of the carburetter throttle valve 16 causes corresponding opening of throttle valve 24 to admit additional air through a filter 43, casing 42, flexible conduit 40 to the inlet leading to a slot 52a. An idling jet passage 58 controlled by a regulating screw 60 is positioned to direct air on to slot edge 59. Fuel condensate flowing along the inner wall of the suction line 33 is atomized by air emerging from the slot and is mixed with the main fuel charge passing into inlet passage 54. The length of slot 52a is not more than <SP>1</SP>/ 3 of the circumference of the mixing chamber, and in a modification can be aligned with a circumferential rib forming a breaking edge which occupies part of the periphery of the mixing chamber. Breaking edges may also be positioned longitudinally or staggered along the circumference of the mixing chamber. |
