984,954. Pneumatic tyres. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN RAISON SOCIALE MICHELIN ET CIE. Dec. 20, 1963 [Dec. 20, 1962], No. 50442/63. Heading B7C. In a tubeless pneumatic tyre 1 of the type containing a core to take the load and prevent collapse of the tyre on partial or complete deflation thereof, the cone is formed of at least two gas-tight rings of a foamed elastomer whose cells are themselves gas-tight, the rings being disposed coaxially one within another. Preferably the core comprises three rings of which the outermost 6 is of polyurethane and has greater resistance to tearing than the other rings, the middle one 5 is of butyl rubber and is the most flexible, and the innermost 4 is of a mix containing metallic fibres and has the greatest thermal conductivity. Each ring has preferably a smooth, lubricated, gas-tight external skin 7. The core preferably has a volume smaller than the internal volume of the tyre, and on inflation of the tyre is compressed to the shape shown in dashed lines in the Figure, to eliminate friction during running, but its volume prior to insertion may be equal to or greater than the internal volume of the tyre. |
