PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal recorder performing classification of video and audio material, while reducing the operation load.SOLUTION: A metadata generation unit 111 generates recording metadata RMETA, that is metadata recorded together with an AV signal. A classification determination unit 113 receives the recording metadata RMETA, determines to which play list a part of the AV signal related to the recording metadata RMETA is classified, with reference to the classification database 113a storing the classification rule, and outputs the classification information CLS indicating the determination results. A play list generation unit 112 generates a play list PLST according to the classification information CLS. A recording unit 102 records the AV signal, the recording metadata RMETA, and the play list PLST on a recording medium 103.
