A hybrid or electric vehicle is immobilized whilst connected to a charging station. Immobilization may be overridden from the driver's HMI, in order to permit drive-away in the event of a threat to the vehicle or occupants.

1. A system for overriding an immobilization command from within a vehicle, the immobilization command being associated with a detection of a connection of an electrical connector of the vehicle to an outside body, the system comprising:
an HMI (human machine interface) of the vehicle; and a controller configured to detect an override command made by a driver through the HMI and to override the immobilization command in dependence on detection of the override command.
