The electrical connections of a chamber or enclosure for a water tub can be protected through the use of spill element sensors. The spill element sensors can help to disable the delivery of power to the heater of a water tub in the event that the electrical connections become wet.

1. A humidification system comprising:
a water tub; a base unit configured to receive the water tub, the base unit; a heating element for heating a liquid, the heating element integrated into the water tub; electric contacts in the base unit configured to provide power to the heating element when the water tub is seated in the base unit; and a sensor positioned in a recessed region of the base unit, the sensor configured to detect a presence of liquid; wherein the recessed region is defined between the tub and the base unit and the sensor is configured to detect liquid in the recessed region.
