<p>A mineral seam detector for use with a mining machine having a cutting drum and a trench cutting plow, the detector comprising: a first gamma detector mounted to follow the cutting drum and positioned below a surface cut by the cutting drum in or over the trench cut by the plow; and a second gamma detector mounted to follow the cutting drum and positioned on or above the surface cut by the cutting drum, wherein the first and second gamma detectors are mounted such that each of the first and second gamma detectors detects gamma radiation coming from a direction of the surface cut by the cutting drum and the second gamma detector being mounted to be positioned over the surface cut by the cutting drum and higher than the first gamma detector by a distance equal to the trench depth.</p> |
