PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate and an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate ester.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate including: preparing an aqueous solution containing a &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylate; and (b) heating the solution, thus dewatering the salt to form an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate. Also provided is a method for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate ester including: reacting the α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate with alcohol to form an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate ester. In the method for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated type carboxylate, the salt is selected from alkali metal salts, alkaline-earth metal salts, ammonium salts, alkyl ammonium salts and their combination, and particularly, a sodium salt or a calcium salt is used. |
