Shaped articles such as fibres, filaments, films, extrusions and mouldings are produced from a polyolefin containing (a) an anionic exchange or basic substance (i.e. a substance which will react with an acid either directly or by replacement of the anion of the exchange substance by the anion of the acid) and (b) an acidic U.V. absorbing agent having a low degree of ionization (i.e. a substance which absorbs light in the region between 3500 and 4000</>rA and which is less than ten per cent ionized in normal aqueous solution at 20 DEG C.). The polyolefin is preferably derived from ethylene and/or propylene. Substances (a) specified are the oxides, hydroxides and fatty salts of alkaline earth metals and of Mg or Zn (e.g. MgO, Ca(OK)2, the stearates of Zn, Mn and Mg, Zn naphthenate and Mg nonanoate), amphoteric hydroxides such as tin or zinc hydroxide, and hydroxyapatite. Substances (b) specified are hydroxy, substituted benzophenones such as 2, 21-dihydroxy -4- octoxybenzophenone and its nitrated derivative, derivatives of salicylic acid such as methyl 5-octylsalicylate, and unspecified dicarboxylic acids, nitro acids, keto acids, hydroxyaldehydes, diketones and diphenols. The compositions are of improved dyeability, particularly with acid dyestuffs, as is illustrated in the examples using drawn fibres. Specification 935,125 is referred to.
