This invention relates to embodiments that provide an assessment tool that enables an automated functional assessment of applications for migration to a target cloud computing platform, e.g. a Platform as a Service (PaaS) platform, to be performed. More particularly, the invention relates to a computer-implemented method which includes receiving, with an automated migration assessment tool, code associated with an application that is to be migrated to a target cloud computing platform. The method further includes analysing, using the automated migration assessment tool, the code to assess dependence of the code on technical utility services and capabilities, and evaluating, using the automated migration assessment tool, support for dependent technical utility services and capabilities in the target cloud computing platform.
