Compounds of the formula CH2 = CHNR1.COOR2, where R1 is hydrogen or alkyl and R2 is alkyl, are prepared by heating a corresponding N-(a -alkoxythyl) -carbamic acid ester in the presence of an aluminium compound having an acid reaction and a large surface, and being insoluble in the reaction mixture. The catalyst may be an active aluminium oxide, aluminium phosphate, or alum, and their activity can be increased by addition of small amounts of zirconium dioxide or tungsten oxide. Preferred temperatures are 50-200 DEG C. |
