The converter has an energy recovery circuit (5) to revoke voltage across terminal of a first switch (K) before closing. The recovery circuit includes an inductor (L5) placed between a common node (25) and a diode (D1). Connection branches (D51, D52) connect the inductor and the diode, respectively, through a resistive element (R5) and a second switch (K5). A magnetic circuit (6) includes another inductor (L52) coupled to a third inductor (L51), where the third inductor is in series with the former inductor and interposed between the branches. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a chopping converter.
