A service supply system comprises a combined heating and cooling mechanism 4345b which outputs heated liquid and cooled liquid. A cooling mechanism 45a receives at least some of the heated liquid from the combined heating and cooling mechanism 4345b and uses the heated liquid to output further cooled liquid. An internal combustion engine may drive a pump in a refrigeration cycle to cool liquid and heat generated by the engine may be used to heat liquid. The cooling mechanism may be an adsorption 451a or absorption 452a refrigerator. A heating mechanism 43a may be used to provide heated liquid for the cooling mechanism, and the heating mechanism may be a boiler fuelled by gas or oil. The heating mechanism 43a may be isolated from the combined heating and cooling mechanism 4345b by a heat exchanger 431. The cooling mechanism may output heated liquid to a waste heat management unit 461 to heat a further liquid. A storage and distribution unit (3, Fig. 4) may distribute the heated and cooled liquids to one or more building units (2, Fig. 1). |
