<p>A foldable and lightweight stretcher comprises a plurality of collapsible, laterally spaced rods (12, figure 3) that are arranged parallel to each other and which are interconnected by a number of flexible material portions (20, figure 3). Each portion includes a plurality of sleeves (21a-b, figure 3) for slidably receiving the rods. The flexible material portions also incorporate at least one pocket (23, figure 4) positioned between two adjacent sleeve portions in which a rigid (24, figure 4) plate is disposed. A closure means may be provided on each pocket enabling insertion and removal of the/or each rigid plate. Each rod comprises a number of separable sections connected by an elastic cord (13, figure 3) enabling the stretcher to be collapsed when not in use. A flexible material portion (20a-f, figure 6) may be provided for each set of laterally adjacent separable rod portions (12a-f, figure 6).</p> |
