The present invention relates to a cathode active material which has a stronger peak intensity at the binding energy of 288 to 293 eV than at the binding energy of 283 to 287 eV in an C1s-X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectrum obtained through an XPS analysis, a preparation method thereof, and a lithium battery containing an electrode including the cathode active material.
