A flow control method for a flow system such as a pipe 100 or blow-out preventer on the superstructure in the flow system includes applying a magnetic field at a targeted point in the flow system and introducing bridging and obstructing materials to the flow system. The bridging and obstructing materials such as magnetically susceptible bodies are introduced upstream of the targeted point through a manifold 75 and on delivery lines 110 and are captured by the applied magnetic field to create a flow preventing or restriction plug at the targeted point.
