Disclosed is a rapid braking detection apparatus using a brake pedal and a method thereof. According to the present invention, it is possible to more rapidly recognize whether to brake than a driver′s intention to brake since directly sensing whether to brake by sensing a signal change in accordance to a brake pedal operation using light and an optical transceiver. Moreover, the present apparatus applies to an electronic type braking system as well as to a hydraulic braking system.
