Provided are a fluorine-containing compound capable of imparting exceptional anti-fouling properties (oil-based ink repellency, fingerprint removal properties) and lubricity to a hard coat layer or the like, a composition for forming a hard coat layer containing this fluorine-containing compound, and an article having an anti-fouling hard coat layer formed from this composition. A fluorine-containing compound represented by D1-Rf1-O-CH2-(CmF2mO)n-A (where D1 is CF3- or CF3-O-; Rf1 is a fluoroalkylene group having 1-20 carbon atoms and containing one or more hydrogen atoms, a fluoroalkylene group having 2-20 carbon atoms, containing one or more hydrogen atoms, and having etheric oxygen atoms between carbon-carbon atoms, or the like; m is an integer of 1-6; n is an integer of 1-200; and A is a monovalent organic group having one or more (meth)acryloyl groups), a composition for forming a hard coat layer containing this fluorine-containing compound, and an article having a hard coat layer formed from this composition.
