<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat assisted magnetic head which monitors and controls optical power during writing operations and improves the recording quality, reliability and lifetime.SOLUTION: A heat assisted magnetic head comprises: a waveguide 135; a first temperature sensor 145 disposed adjacently to the waveguide and adapted to be heated by optical power passing through the waveguide; and a second temperature sensor 147. The first temperature sensor is disposed adjacently to the waveguide and is about two or more micrometers away from an air bearing surface. The first temperature sensor has a length, a width and a thickness, and the length is greater than the width and the thickness. The length of the first temperature sensor is substantially perpendicular to the waveguide. A resistance change of the first temperature sensor relative to the second temperature sensor is measured to determine a temperature change.</p> |
