The present invention relates to an electric machine (1) comprising a stator (2) and a rotor (4) arranged on an axis of rotation (5) and a first fan (8a), which extends in the radial direction on one section of the axis of rotation and delivers a coolant flow into the electric machine (1) during operation. The electric machine (1) further comprises a fan directing element (10), which interacts with the first fan (8) and deflects at least a proportion of the coolant flow. In accordance with the invention, variable and demand-based cooling of the electric machine (1) can be achieved by means of the fan directing element (10), which can in particular be adjustable.
