The present invention relates to a control method of a portable terminal comprising a display unit, a proximity sensor, and a covering unit combined thereto to cover the proximity sensor. The control method of the portable terminal comprises: a sensing step of determining whether the proximity sensor is covered by the covering unit while at least a part of a screen of the display unit is in an off-state standby mode; and a display unit controlling step of controlling the display unit for the whole screen of the display unit to switch from the standby mode into an on-state active mode if it is determined that the proximity sensor is switched from a covered state into an open state in the sensing step. The portable terminal does not require a user to operate a button after a front cover is opened since the screen of the portable terminal is automatically controlled, thereby maximizing the convenience of use. |
