[Also in Division A4] Apparatus for converting sheet paper material into fluted multiple cup tray form comprises a plurality of male forming dies 15, a plurality of female forming dies 13, both types of die being complementarily fluted at 17, 19, respectively, means for moving the male and female dies into forming relation with each other, and means for moving sets of dies nearer to other sets of dies as the male and female dies, which constitute the sets, are brought together. The male dies are surrounded by shrouding dies 25 having fluted lower edges 27 which co-operate with the radially fluted mouths 21 of the female dies so as lightly to grip the paper blanks 11, a plurality of which is shaped simultaneously, before and as the male dies enter the female dies and thereby facilitate the formation of flutes in the cup portions of the finished trays. The male dies and their shrouding dies are supported from a plate 29 by members 31 having flanges 32 at their upper ends which are slidably engaged in a T-section groove 34 in the plate 29. A prime mover reciprocates the plate 29 vertically to open and close the die sets. |
