<p>1,048,333. Welding by fusion. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 31, 1965 [June 9, 1964], No. 23129/65. Heading B3R. An arc welding machine for welding a component 8, Figs. 1 and 3, not shown, to a workpiece 12 on a small diameter circle has a torch B, having a thermally insulating tubular member 38 capping and protecting a central part 10 of the component 8 during welding and an electrode 40 outside the tubular member 38 rotated around the axis of the tubular member 38 by a drive 50, and a support A for the torch B provided with mechanism for aligning the axis of the torch B with that of a component 8. The components 8 are thermocouples having a conductor 10 connected by a brazed joint. The support A consists of a frame 16 securable by bolts 18 to the workpiece 12 and a compound slide arrangement 21, 22 carrying the torch B. The torch B has a casing 36 carrying a ceramic nozzle 42 to which argon is fed and an inner part rotatable by a motor 50 and comprising a conductive tube 44 carrying a tungsten electrode 40 and the tubular member 38. The torch B is adjustable longitudinally on the slide 22 by a rack and pinion device. In a modification, Fig. 5, not shown, the torch B<SP>1</SP> is connected to the slide 22<SP>1</SP> by a releasable coupling and the torch is provided with an axial passage extending from the tubular member through the whole length of the torch. Thus thermocouples having very long conductors 10<SP>1</SP> can be welded by threading the conductor through the torch and coupling the torch to the slide 22<SP>1</SP>.</p> |
