A leather-like material which can be drycleaned comprises a layer of foam 1 surfaced on both sides with layers 2 and 3 of plastics incorporating a plasticizer which is inextractible by drycleaning fluids such as perchloroethylene, carbon tetrachloride or naptha. Inextractible plasticizers have high molecular weight e.g. 2,000-20,000 and specified alkyl chain lengths i.e. glycols and dicarboxylic acids selected from shorter carbon chain types e.g. glycol adipates, sebacates and the like. The foam may be vinyl resin e.g. P.V.C. or urethane or rubber foam. The plastics layers 2 and 3 may be P.V.C., polyester, vinyl fluoride, or an acrylic resin. Cotton, fibreglass, or synthetic resin, fabric may be incorporated in the laminate. The layers may be formed using plastisols, by extrusion or calendering.
|
