FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medicine, namely to medical equipment, and aims at providing the antimicrobial medium surrounding a sterilised medical device. For producing a packed antimicrobial retention suture, a primary packaging containing an antimicrobial agent source and an absorbent material effectively eventually absorbing a portion of the antimicrobial agent is formed. The retention suture is placed into the primary packaging with the retention suture having one or more surfaces. The primary packaging is covered with a secondary packaging having an inner surface. The retention suture, the primary packaging and the inner surface of the secondary packaging are exposed to such temperatures and pressure and for such period of time, which are effective for transfer vapours of an effective amount of the antimicrobial agent from the antimicrobial agent source to the retention suture and to the primary packaging. As a result, bacterial colony formation is substantially inhibited on the retention suture and the primary packaging.
