PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which has high external quantum efficiency and a long service life.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element includes a light-emitting layer 60 between electrodes arranged facing each other. The light-emitting layer 60 contains a guest material composed of a phosphorescent compound and a host material. The host material is composed of a luminescent compound in which the difference between energy in a singlet excited state and energy in a triplet excited state is 0.25 eV or less.
